Help us Expand our Impact
We’re excited to share that Flemingdon Park Ministry is moving to a new, larger space! Thanks to a generous grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, we’ll begin renovations in October, with a planned move in the spring. This new space will allow us to expand our programs and serve even more community members.
Our new location will provide larger class sizes, a dedicated kitchen for cooking classes, and more meeting spaces to support social integration, education, and food security for newcomers and local residents. With these expansions come additional rental costs and the need for increased staff support.
Your support has already made stories like Zarghona’s possible.
When Zarghona first arrived at Flemingdon Park Ministry, she was overwhelmed and didn’t know a word of English. She felt isolated and disconnected in a new country, with no community or support network.
“I was so nervous. I didn’t even know how to cross the street…I felt like I was blind,” Zarghona recalls. But everything changed when she walked through the doors of FPM.
At FPM, Zarghona found more than just English classes—she found a place where she could begin to rebuild her life. “It was so calm and relaxed,” she says. The supportive environment and patient guidance from our volunteer teachers helped her learn English and gain the confidence to navigate her new surroundings. “I learned the alphabet, how to read and write. It was like my eyes were opened. I could finally understand what my doctor was saying and knew how to respond,” she explains.
Beyond language skills, FPM offered Zarghona a sense of belonging and community. She made friends, built relationships, and found her footing in a new country. “The people here are kind, the teachers are good, and you can learn faster. When I learn English, I can stand on my own feet,” she shares. Her newfound confidence has also sparked future ambitions. “I want to work, maybe become a cashier. One day, I hope to even come back and help with English too.”
